We understand the importance of functional independence for children, facilitating normal development and promoting age-appropriate skills. We work with children on the following areas.

(rolling, crawling, reaching, walking)

(sensory processing, motor planning)

(shape , letter, number recognition)

(sharing, initiating conversation, play appropriately with others)

(IEP consultation, classroom management)

(legibility, copying, pre-printing skills, letter formation)

(buttoning, pencil grasp)

(feeding, getting dressed, grooming, toileting)

Children may require OT with or without  the presence of a medical conditions. However, some kids may be at risk for delays in skills due to medical conditions like:
  • birth injuries or defects
  • brachial plexus injuries
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • developmental delays
  • Cerebral palsy or other movement disorders
  • Down Syndrome
  • learning problems
  • ADHD
  • traumatic injuries (brain and spinal cord)
We believe that learning is a continuous process. We provide Consultations and educational workshops for health care organizations, schools, universities and other related organizations.

Our Occupational therapist is a certified AOTA fieldwork educator.

(An Occupational therapy Assessment from another provider is acceptable if it’s within the last 6 months.)

Once the report is completed it will be sent to the email provided in a pdf format. Please allow up to 3 weeks for a written report to be sent. An optional conference call can be arranged to discuss findings of report and plan of care.

(This depends on the goals and progress of child.) You
would receive an update progress report and an optional conference call to discuss progress.

An additional cost is associated with this service.

Shenika McIntosh-Cooper, MS, OTR/L, CAS

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

Mrs. Shenika McIntosh-Cooper holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Occupation with a minor in psychology from D’Youville College, Buffalo, New York in 2010 and a Master of Science in Occupational therapy from D’Youville College, Buffalo, New York in 2011. She is a Certified Autism Specialist, working with children on the Autism Spectrum for more than 6 years and over a decade of experience. She has extensive experience in both physical rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, and pediatrics, having both worked in the United States of America and The Bahamas. In 2016, Mrs. McIntosh-Cooper established Occupational therapy Consulting Services, a consulting firm that evaluate and treat children with neurological disorders, learning, developmental, and intellectual disabilities in Nassau, Bahamas. The firm also provides training and consultancy services to medical professionals, teachers, and civic groups.

Mrs. McIntosh-Cooper is the President of the Occupational therapy Association of The Bahamas , Vice President of the Association of Caribbean Occupational Therapists and serves as the Bahamian delegate for the World Federation of Occupational Therapy. She is an honorary member of Pi Theta Epsilon, a scholastic honor society that recognizes achievement in the field of Occupational therapy.
